UNFPA: FORGING PARTNERSHIPS – TRANSFORMING VISION INTO REALITY

In today’s world of globalization, partnerships play a critical role in harnessing synergies of like minded organizations sharing a common vision in achieving global development goals.

UNFPA recognizes the power partnerships as an important tool for development; from its inception in 1993, UNFPA has been promoting, building and strengthening partnerships in Georgia to press forward its mandate in achieving the ICPD and Millennium Development Goals. It has joined hands with the Government, donors, NGOs and partner UN agencies to gain leverage in collective human and financial recourses in meeting a common agenda.

In line with its strategic directions UNFPA CO in Georgia has built partnerships with the Parliamentarians and the Government, Professional associations, National institutions, NGOs and Youth organizations in the country to create several milestones, significant amongst those are:

  • Partnership with the ICPD Committee at the Parliament of Georgia lobbying for the promotion of RH and PD issues and concerns
  • Partnership with the EC to promote youth S&RH and Rights in the South Caucasus
  • Partnership with USAID in supporting the RH surveys in Georgia
  • Joint effort between the Tbilisi Municipality and UNFPA resulted in the co-financed project to support the Cancer Prevention and Early Detection Programme for Tbilisi Population which is the only State co-funded project in the field of cancer prevention
  • National RH Council, the primary partnership coordinating body formed with the joint initiative of the First Lady of Georgia and UNFPA
  • Partnership with the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Monument Protection to promote healthy life-style and Youth RH among youth
