| The Joint Programme Celebrates International Women's
Day and the Programme Launch |
 |
| At Ankara Palace on 7 March 2006, the Joint
UN Programme was publicly launched by Mr. Derviş in
front of 300 members of parliament, majors, senior
government officials, NGOs, ambassadors, UN staff
and representatives of the press.
The public launch brought together for the first
time the key stakeholders of the programme and
everyone pronounced their firm commitment to
the programmes objectives and to its success. |
 |
| What We're About |
The Joint UN Programme works to promote and protect women and
girls' human rights through activities in six different
cities: Izmir, Kars, Van, Şanlıurfa,
Nevşehir and Trabzon.
The Joint Programme combines resources from the UN, bi-lateral
donors, private sector and partners with the Ministry of
the Interior to improve political and budgetary commitment
to and increase the capacity of local government and NGOs
to promote and protect women and girls' rights and raise
local awareness about women and girls' rights.

|
| What We've Accomplished |
Since December 2005, the Joint Programme has been busy recruiting
staff, starting preliminary activities and raising funds.
In December 2005 the JP began programme activities with
an Opinion Poll in each of the six cities. Over 3,000 men
and women from the six cities are being polled to learn
their needs and priorities and inform them about programme
activities. Results from the Opinion Poll will be available
in March 2006 and direct all programme activities. To learn
more about our fundraising efforts see the Fundraising
Corner below.

- Town-hall
meetings in all 6 cities
- Meeting with chambers of commerce
in all 6 cities

dialogue meetings
