In partnership with government officials, NGOs and the private sector,
the UN has implemented several sucessful programmes to increase
awareness on gender issues in Turkey. Additionally, the Turkish
government has legislated several reforms to improve women's rights.
However, for a desirable outcome of the previous
programmes on gender and the recent legislations,
all parties (namely local governments, NGOs, private
sector and citizens) must assume their
responsibilities to create a lasting and productive
cycle of cooperation.
During the previous programmes on gender, UN worked
separately with the local governments, NGOs and
private sector companies. With this programme, the
UN is bringing both local governments, NGOs and
private sector together for the first time to create
a new approach to gender issues, to make society
more gender sensitive, to increase awareness of the
legal rights of women and girls, and to create a
lasting partnership among all of the parties
involved. |
