PARTNERSHIPS AND COLLABORATIONS WITHIN THE REGION
A number of population and development issues are common to Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia:
With UNFPA's support, a number of regional initiatives/partnerships are taking place in the region:
Partnerships
- Peer education for young people (through Y-Peer) (Armenia-Georgia-Azerbaijan-Turkey)
- Social Marketing (Armenia-Georgia)
- Reproductive Health Crisis Management (Azerbaijan-Georgia)
- Drafting Reproductive Health Law (Armenia-Georgia)
- Capacity building on Data Collection and Analysis (Azerbaijan-Turkey)
Regional Projects
- UNFPA has been carrying out a Reproductive Health Initiative for Youth in South Caucasus (RHYIC) since 2006 covering Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia. RHIYC is a project co-funded by UNFPA, the European Comission and European Parliamentary Forum (http://www.iepfpd.org/) aimed at long-term improvement in the sexual and reproductive health and rights of young people in the South Caucasus. RHIYC will empower youth to advocate for their right to accessible, youth friendly, high-quality sexual and reproductive health services and supplies in order to reduce unwanted pregnancies, prevent the spread of STIs including HIV/AIDS, and eliminate gender based violence. - A regional project on Combating Gender Based Violence in the South Caucasus (developed - negotiations with possible partners carrying on)
- A regional initiative on Reducing Reproductive Cancer in the South Caucasus (Planning stage)
- An inter-country intern rotation/exchange program among four country offices
