Strengthening In-Service Training for Reproductive Health

Project name:  TUR/03/02/05-02/P05 Strengthened Reproductive Health In-service Training Programme

Budget: USD 380,000

Timeline:  June 2002 – December 2005

What's the situation?

In the past, a variety of donor agencies have supported a number of in-service training schemes in Turkey. However, in most cases, it has not been possible to disseminate these programs beyond a few provinces at a time so as to spread their benefits more widely throughout the country. As a result, the countrywide accessibility and quality of integrated Reproductive Health (RH) services has been low.

Whats our mission?

Our mission is to institutionalise in-service curricula and training materials in Turkey so as to strengthen the quality of RH services by improving the competence of the service providers.

How is UNFPA doing this?

  • By reviewing and compiling the curricula and training programmes of existing in-service RH training courses both in the Ministry of Health  and Social Security Institution (SSK)
  • By preparing a comprehensive RH in-service training strategy, including the standards for the RH services to be provided.
  • By developing a RH in-service training manual according to this strategy.
  • By preparing and publishing the National RH Service Guidelines.
  • By training service providers  as trainers through new curricula.

Who are our partners?

The Ministry of Health, General Directorate of Mother Child Health and Family Planning

How will Turkey benefit?

In the short term, a number of service providers will be trained in comprehensive RH services, so as to be able to function as trainers. In the long term, integrated and quality RH services will be created by following a strategic in-service training system, using standard training materials and by using National Reproductive Health Guidelines.
