Developing Reproductive Health Services for Adolescents

Project name: TUR/03/01/08-02/P08  - Supporting Health Promotion for Adolescents

Budget: USD 250,000

Timeline:  January 2002-December 2005

What's the situation?

In Turkey 20 per cent of the population are classed as "adolescent" (UNFPA defines this as aged 10-19 years). Here, as across the world, the particular processes of biological, psychological and emotional transition which are a part of adolescence can be open to risks and negative influences.

Whats our mission?

Our mission is  to provide appropriate, specific and user-friendly health services which are accessible to all adolescents, so as to improve their health status and fulfil their reproductive and sexual health needs.

How is UNFPA doing this?

  • By developing and introducing a model for the provision of services to adolescents.
  • By implementing this model in pilot centres.
  • By evaluating the service provision.
  • By expanding the model for the provision of  Reproductive Health (RH) services to adolescents.

Who are our partners?

The Ministry of Health General Directorate of Mother Child Health and Family Planning

How will Turkey benefit?

In the short term benefits will be felt from the improved knowledge and skills of the service providers for adolescents. In the long term Turkey will benefit from the creation and operation of an appropriate service model for the nation.
