Updating a Key Tool for Reproductive Health Policy and Planning

Project name:  TUR/03/01/14-02/P11: Updated Action Plan for the Implementation of the National Strategy on Integration of Reproductive Health Services

Budget: USD 150,000

Timeline:  November 2002- December 2005

What's the situation?

In Turkey, as in countries across the world, the National Strategic Plan for Women’s Health and Family Planning (NSP-WH/FP) is the key reference document for policymakers and strategic planners working in women’s health and family planning services. It is based on targets drawn up at the 1994 International Conference on Population and Development. (ICPD). In subsequent years an Action Plan has established for the NSP-WH/FP and in 1999 a set of realistic targets was drawn up for countries to reach in five-year intervals.

From the beginning, this Action Plan was intended as a dynamic and living document, which would be continuously monitored and regularly modified. As a result, it is necessary for countries and organisations involved to review and update the Action Plan for the NSP-WH/FP so as to ensure its compatibility to these indicators.

Whats our mission?

Since the action plans are crucial for implementing Reproductive Health strategy in Turkey, our mission is to have prepared an updated action plan for selected strategies of NSP-WH/FP.

How is UNFPA doing this?

  • By evaluating the current implementation of the NSP-WH/FP Action Plan
  • By preparing an updated Action Plan with the participation of all related institutions
  • By introducing the Action Plan countrywide

Who are our partners?

The Ministry of Health, General Directorate of Mother Child Health and Family Planning

How will Turkey benefit?

The updated Action Plan will benefit Turkey in its implementation of the National Strategy and in its efficient and appropriate integration of services for reproductive health.
